Diagnosis: flattened locomotion form, expanded, with irregular, sometimes spatulate or flabellate shape, with a few short, fine subpseudopodia, produced from a hyaloplasmic lobe; sometimes cilindrical (limax) with no discernible subpseudopodia; eruptive activity in either form; uninucleate, nucleus with 1-3 parietal nucleolar pieces; usually with at least one large lipid droplet (ca. 4 µm) and smaller ones; cysts usually spherical, sometimes reniform or crescentic from pressure during encystment, with smooth inner wall and outer wall raised into many peaks, without pores and opercula.

Dimensions: lomotion form ca. 15-35 µm, mean 22 µm; nucleus 2.8-4.6 µm in fixed, stained preparations; cysts 8.4-13.0 µm.

Ecology: fresh water and soil.
