Thomas & Gauthier-Lièvre, 1959 (comb. nov.)
Basionym: Euglypha dentata var. elongata Playfair, 1917

Diagnosis: Test elongate, elliptical or subcylindrical, often asymmetrical, circular in section, rounded behind; sides gently arched, often nearly parallel, converging to the aperture. Dimensions: Playfair, 1917: Length 44–51 µm; width 21–25 µm; aperture 8–10 µm; scales 6 µm; L/W 2.04–2.09.
Thomas and Gauthier-Lièvre, 1959: Length 60–73 µm; width 24–35 µm; aperture 10–15 µm; L/W 2.09–2.50.

Ecology: Mosses, marshes, acid waters.

Geographical distribution: Australia, Africa, Austria (Bettighofer, 2026, unpublished).

*) Taxonomic Note: Playfair (1917) described Euglypha dentata var. elongata. Under Article 45.6 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN), a name published before 1961 as a “variety” is deemed to be subspecific unless explicitly indicated otherwise. The name is therefore available from 1917 as Euglypha dentata elongata Playfair, 1917.
Thomas & Gauthier-Lièvre (1959) transferred the taxon to Tracheleuglypha. When treated at species rank, the correct name is:
Tracheleuglypha elongata (Playfair, 1917)
The authorship remains Playfair, 1917, as required by ICZN Articles 50 and 51.
