Diagnosis: Heterolobose amoeboids without flagellated stage desribed in life cycle. Cysts with or without gelatinous coat. One species only reported to have excystments pores. Many species.

Remarks: To determine species it is necessary to culture these amoebae. But because Heterolobosea can have an amoboid and/or a flagellated and/or an encysted stage in their life cycle, determination of these amoebae is very difficult. Depending upon culture conditions used, isolates may fail to display all stages. Older cultures frequently lose their ability to form flagellates or cystst.
