Arboramoeba cf. reticulata – Photomicrograph: Ernst Hippe, Germany
Ernst Hippe, who took the photomicrographs on this page, observed the following about this amoeba:
“I found specimens of this species in several locations, including a wet cactus flowerpot and dish, water on a forest trail, peat bogs, and Bromeliads. The amoebae often transitioned slowly from a belt-shaped form into a plasmodium. The belt-shaped forms measured between 500 and 2,500 µm in length and approximately 7 µm in width. They could remain as a stationary plasmodium for extended periods or move at a rate of about 100 µm per hour. The plasm was very bright, with little contrast, and showed distinct granule movement. Numerous contractile vacuoles were present, with a maximum diameter of 3.5 µm.”
