Claparedellus lachmannii
Specimen with an optical cross-section of the peduncle (left)

Claparedellus lachmannii from a dune lake, Netherlands

Description of the dune lake specimen. The specimen measured 128 µm in diameter. The cytoplasm contained some small diatoms. The size of the nuclei varied between 7.8-9.6 µm in diameter, mean 8.5 µm (n=13).

Habitat: A shallow dune lake near Castricum. This lake is part of a system in which pre-treated river water (from the IJsselmeer and the Rhine) is infiltrated into the dunes to restore the underground water supply and prevent damage to nature as a result of the sharp drop in groundwater level.
