Genus Filamoeba Page, 1967

Cells flattened, fan-shaped, and sometimes with an elongate posterior giving the cell a spatulate outline, between 15 and 50 µm in length. Occasionally with 2 or more hyaline lobes. Clear, thin, filopodia, up to 10 µm long, extend from the hyaline edge. These can be branched at their base but are never anastomosing. Cytoplasm with 15 or more small contractile vacuoles. Cysts smooth and round, oval, or irregular in shape with a relatively thick wall. Monospecific.

Habitat: Freshwater.
