Padaungiella magna
P. magna, after Van Oye, 1956

Padaungiella magna  (Van Oye, 1956)

Diagnosis: Shell lageniform with a thick, distinct apertural rim (“annulus”). Shell structure like that of other Padaungiella, Nebela, and similar taxa.

Dimensions: According to Van Oye (1956): Shell length 177 μm; width 103 μm; aperture 35 μm; L/B 1.72.

Habitat: Sphagnum peatlands.

Geographical distribution: New Zealand.

Remarks: Kosakyan et al., 2025: “The taxon was described based on a single specimen. Because of its large size, however, it is unlikely that it belongs to any previously described species. Further investigations are needed to confirm the validity of this species.”
