

Vannella platypodia (Gläser, 1912)
Diagnosis: Locomotive form of large minority, sometimes majority, somewhat longer than broader, sometimes spatulate, prolonged posteriorly; greatest dimensions 10-30 µm (mean 16-21µm); nucleus 5.0 µm; settles from floating form in a few minutes; attaches well to glass; simple filaments amongst glycostyles.
Habitat: common in fresh water.
Remarks: There are probably more species than we can distinguish lightmicroscopically.
