Gocevia sp.

Diagnosis: Amoeba more or less spherical in shape, with a central granular hump, partly or completely surrounded by a hyaline margin; surface with a covering of particles, which give the cuticle a light brownish appearance; cuticle is in rest spherical or ovoid; hyaline zone often irregular in outline with conical or digiform subpseudopodia and trailing filaments; cells uninucleate; nucleus with to or three peripheral arranged nucleoli.

Dimensions: covering 60-75 µm, nucleus 9.9 µm.

Habitat: fresh water, in sphagnum pool in Fochterloërveen, the Netherlands. Can easily be overlooked.

Remarks: The main difference with Gocevia obscura is the structure of the nucleus. While G. obscura has a central nucleolus, this species has two or three peripheral arranged ones. The layer of particles forms a flexible protection for the amoeba. This Gocevia was abundantly present in samples from a Sphagnum pool. It was impossible to identify the nature of the particles. They seemed to be the same as those in the covering of Frenzelina reniformis, which was also present in the sample.
