Opisthokonta  Cavalier-Smith 1987

The Opisthokonta is a large supergroup of eukaryotes including choanoflagellates, sponges (metazoans) and fungi. In addition, the Opisthokonta also includes some amoeboid protists (e.g. Nuclearia). These amoeboid opisthokonts possess filopodia supported by actin filaments. The filopodia are tapering and branching in fungi and nucleariids (both in the clade Nucletmycea). In the choanoflagellates and sponges, the filopodia form a particle-capturing apparatus, the collar around the flagellum.
