Diagnosis: Shell small, hyaline or slightly yellowish, ovoid, not compressed, covered with irregular, mostly large siliceous plates. Some shells with a more or less distinct neck. Variable in shape. Pseudostome circular or slightly irregular. Nucleus relatively large with central nucleolus. Cytoplasm homogeneous, not layered. Pseudopodia not observed.
Dimensions: Schönborn (1964): Shell length 15–21 µm; width 13.2–17.5 µm; pseudostome 8.1–9.3 µm (n=4); nucleus 9.0–9.5 (n=2).
Ecology: In humus of beech forests; in dry mosses. Europe.
