Filoreta sp.? – Gaasterland, Netherlands, 2022

Family Filoretidae Cavalier-Smith and Bass, 2009

Type genus Filoreta Cavalier-Smith and Bass, 2009

Filoreta Cavalier-Smith and Bass, 2009

Diagnosis: Large networks of cytoplasmic strands connect cell bodies of varying shapes and sizes; strands vary in width from 0.1 um to sheet-like expanses of cytoplasm; very fine strands always present in meroplasmodia. Cytoplasmic streaming can be bi-directional, but not always obviously; flow can be predominantly or completely in one direction, or switch direction. Older cultures form multinucleate holoplasmodia or tightly associated clusters of cells/cysts. In contrast to Leucodictyon and Reticulamoeba protoplasmic threads largely lack prominent granules.
Type species: Filoreta marina Bass and Cavalier-Smith, 2009
