Genus Protocucurbitella Gauthier-Lièvre & Thomas, 1960

Diagnosis: Structure of the test between Difflugia and Cucurbitella: with no collar or a slightly differentiated one. Shell resembles in lateral view a Difflugia; in oral view, the lobed pseudostome shows below the teeth a diaphragm with a very wide, roughly circular opening.

Remarks: In my opinion, the status of this genus is very doubtful: the type species is identical to Netzelia corona! What a diaphragm is supposed to be is nothing but a structure between the teeth that gives the impression of a continuous ring behind it.
