Difflugia truncata Penard, 191708

Diagnosis: Shell ovoid, pear-shaped, wide, squat, barely prolonged at its anterior part into a very short neck: formed of amorphous siliceous particles, or frustules of diatoms; terminal aperture, round, wide. Plasma with symbiotic algae and very small starch grains. Nucleus voluminous, spherical, with chromatic material represented by very small nucleoli, several hundred in number, dispersed everywhere and without order in a pale nuclear juice.

Dimensions: Penard (1908): Shell length 180-200 µm.

Ecology: Freshwater. Switserland, Europe.
