Diagnosis: Shell yellowish or clear, pyroid and tapering toward pseudostome; fundus with large spine, covered with scales; shell round in cross-section, covered with circular or broad-elliptical or somewhat irregular, overlapping scales; pseudostome circular, sometimes with a short collar; nucleus ovular. Scales are often very hard to detect.

Ecology: In sediment and between aquatic vegetation, also in Sphagnum; very rare.
Geographical distribution: It has been reported from several locations in Europe (e.g., Penard, 1902, Hoogenraad and De Groot, 1940). I have found this species in the Netherlands, Mongolia (2023) and USA (Montana). It was found in Brazil at several locations by Maria B. Gomes e Souza (pers. comm.) and in Africa (Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda, Congo, Madagascar) by Thomas and Gauthier-Lièvre, 1959. This species has also been reported from Australia (Gilles, 1918).
