Leptomyxa sp., slowly retracting in response to the light of the microscope
Leptomyxa sp.
Diagnosis: This is a very large amoeba which I found in 2012. I assume that it is a Leptomyxa species, but I was not able to observe it for some days as I could not find it back the next day day in the Petri dish. It is a slowly moving amoeba which builds several lobopodia in several directions. During rapid locomotion, it is one long monopodium, up to 1300 µm. As I used an inverse microscope, I was not able to observe any nuclei or contractile vacuoles.
Habitat: In a peatbog along the Bert Bospad, the Netherlands.
Remarks: I have found only one specimen.
