Difflugia stellastoma Vucetich, 1989
Diagnosis: Shell subspherical, without a neck or collar. Pseudostom large with three or, less frequently, four very deep lobes, with straight edges. Due to its depth, the ends of the lobes are visible with the shell in a lateral position. Pseudostom without collar, its edge bends slightly outwards. Shell formed by abundant small, rounded exogenous siliceous particles; They rarely protrude from the contour and their piled arrangement completely covers the organic cement. No pores were observed around the pseudostome. Shell dark gray, opaque and resistant.
Dimensions: Vucetich (1989): Shell length 69—82 µm; width 63—74 µm, aperture (measured from the top of one lobe to the opposite side) 38—45 µm (n=30).
Habitat: Marine.
Geographical distribution: La Cava lagoon, Dept. of Barranquera, Province of Chaco, Brazil.
Remarks: The most similar species is Netzelia (Difflugia) angelica Gauthier-Lièvre and Thomas (1958), from which it differs by the presence of pseudostomal lobes much deeper and in fewer numbers. Furthermore the dimensions of D. stellastoma are very inferior.
