Basionym: Sphenoderia australis Playfair, 1917, var. chardezi Thomas and Gauthier-Lièvre, 1959

Diagnosis: Shell globular, very slightly compressed, fundus rounded. The flanks, very convex, converge towards the neck, which is quite high, erect, very compressed in lateral view. In apical view, the pseudostome appears in the form of a slit.
The test is embedded with neatly arranged, circular or slightly oval scales, interlocking at their edges.

Dimensions: Length 30-53 µm; width 22-43 µm; thickness 18-38 µm; collar 5-6 µm.

Habitat: Freshwater, running waters and perhaps the submerged mosses on the margins of these water bodies. Africa, Himalaya.
