
Sphenoderia splendida Playfair, 1917
Diagnosis: shell in side-view ovoid, not compressed, in cross-section circular; plate scales elliptical. Pseudostome a narrow slit, surrounded by a thin hyaline collar.
Dimensions: length 30-70 µm.
Habitat: in wet Sphagnum and other mosses. Also in detritus without Sphagnum-contact.
Remarks: Decloitre (1965) described following variety and form:
Sphenoderia splendida var. magna Decloitre, 1965
Distinguished from the main form by its size; it is always more than 70 µm long, often 80 µm or more. This is nearly twice the length of the main form.

Description of the form: This form is distinguished from the main form by its extremely narrow pseudostome. The dimensions are: length 40-45 µm, width 20-23 µm, pseudostome 5-6 µm.
