Difflugia saxicola Penard, 1890
Diagnosis: Shell small, ovoid or obovate, embedded with mostly quartz particles, angular and generally very large at the pseudostome. The terminal aperture is more often truncated at an angle. Cytoplasm usually well visible through the shell wall, not filling the shell. Nucleus normal, large, posterior to plasma; contractile vesicle near the nucleus. Epipodia present. Pseudopodia few; most often during a brisk walk only one.
Dimensions: Penard (1890): Shell length 30-50 µm; width 25-35 µm.
Habitat: Freshwater, sediment.
