Basionym: Arcella artocrea var. pseudocatinus Deflandre, 1928

Diagnosis: Test height one-quarter to one-half of the diameter; dome convex; surface mammillated or pitted; test margin well defined, forming a pronounced border reaching approximately one-quarter to one-half of the test height. Shell circular in outline with a conical aboral region, often covered by depressions. The basal collar is usually prominent and smooth. Aperture invaginated, circular, with a small lip, and surrounded by approximately thirty large and several smaller pores. Zoochlorellae are absent.

Dimensions: Literature 152—216 µm.
My measurements: 160—202 µm.

Ecology: Bogs and Sphagnum ponds.

Remarks: This taxon was originally described by Leidy (1876) within Arcella artocrea. Deflandre (1928) later differentiated specimens with pores and zoochlorellae from those lacking zoochlorellae. He emended the concept of Arcella artocrea to include forms with zoochlorellae and, in some cases, pores (with some uncertainty), whereas he defined the variety pseudocatinus as a taxon lacking zoochlorellae and possessing pores.
