

Pseudodifflugia klarae Kiss and Török, 2009
Diagnosis. Shell oval or pyriform, rigid, slightly compressed and scarcely or densely agglutinated with small mineral particles; aperture irregular in outline and inconspicuous, not encrusted with xenosomes, and without organic rim; nucleus contains one eccentric nucleolus and a few bent rods in the nucleoplasm.
Dimensions: Shell length 8-14 µm, mean 9.5 µm (n=34); aperture 0.4-3.0 µm; nucleus 2.7-4.3 µm, nucleolus 1.1-1.2 µm. My measurements: Shell 8.5-14.2 µm long; aperture 1.6 µm; nucleus 2.6-2.8 µm, nucleolus 1.2 µm.
Ecology: in fresh, living plankton samples from the Danube. Feeding on bacteria (Kiss and Török, 2009).
Remarks: Characteristic is also the asymmetrical neck, see photomicrographs a and f below (original from Kiss and Török) and my images above.
