Cryptodifflugia spec. – 14 µm long

Cryptodifflugia spec. (Crailoo, Hilversum)

Diagnosis: Shell ovoid to oblong, narrowing toward the aperture to form a distinct neck. Shell wall chitinoid, bearing a few small xenosomes. Aperture circular. Nucleus vesicular. Small, elongate digipodia present.

Dimensions: Shell length 14 µm (own measurement).

Ecology: Freshwater; shallow mesotrophic pond.

Distribution: Known only from the locality in Crailoo, Hilversum.

Remarks: This population likely represents a new species. It was found in a shallow mesotrophic pond in Crailoo (Hilversum). The combination of an oblong shell with a distinct neck, sparse xenosomes, and the presence of long digipodia is unusual within the genus.
