Longinebela speciosa (Deflandre, 1936) Kosakyan et al., 2016
Basionym: Nebela speciosa Deflandre, 1936
Diagnosis: Very large species, shell very elongated pyriform, of general shape similar to L. penardiana, with two clearly visible lateral pores. Pseudostome truncated straight or very slightly arched, with very narrow chitinoid lip, often barely perceptible. Elongated clavate in side view. Wall formed from overlapping rounded polygonal plates most of the time, very transparent.
Dimensions: Length 236-272 µm ; width 115-123 µm; pseudostome 40-46 µm. My measurements: Length 218-239 µm (n=5)
Ecology: On wet and submerged moss in high peat bogs and fens.
Geographical distribution: France. North America (Westphalia).
Remarks: Longinebela speciosa is much larger than L. penardiana, and the lip that borders it is always well developed and impossible to misrecognize in L. penardiana, while on the contrary it is very thin and sometimes almost imperceptible in L. speciosa.
