Genus Valkanovia Tappan, 1966
Diagnosis: Shell ovoid, oblate, elliptical in cross-section, composed of elongated elliptical hyaline scales arranged in a brick-like manner; edge of the platelets regularly rounded and free from approaches. Pseudostome round, with a diameter of 5.5 µm, bordered by a slightly thickened rim formed from the chitinoid ground substance of the shell. In general, the shell is extremely delicate and thin-walled.
It differs from Euglypha species in the structure of the pseudostome: while the pseudostome is surrounded by platelets of a peculiar structure in all representatives of the genus Euglypha, here it is not surrounded by platelets but by a rim.

Dimensions: Length 42 μm, width 24 μm. Scales 4-5 µm in length.
Ecology: Soil, between moist oak leaves, Bulgaria.
