Arcella oblonga Schaudinn, 1898

Diagnosis: Shell oval, bilaterally symmetrical, disc-shaped. The aperture is also oval, like the shell; its edges are curved inwardly. Particularly characteristic of this species, in addition to its shape, is the finer structure of the shell. The building units are very even and very small, 0.5-0.8 µm. Two nuclei.

Dimensions: Schaudinn didn’t give any measurements.

Ecology: Freshwater, sediment; East Africa.

Remarks: Schaudinn (1898) found this strange shape in eleven specimens of almost the same size in a mud sample.
