A. indica
A. indica – from Chattopadhyay and Das, 2003

Arcella indica  Chattopadhyay & Das, 2003

Diagnosis: Shell more or less transparent, irregularly circular in front view, oral aperture crenulated and irregularly trilobed. Shell membranous with minutely hexagonal markings, in dorsal view discoid and irregularly circular, in lateral view to some extent plano-concave. Height of the test about one-third of the diameter, aperture crenulated and irregularly trilobed, centrally located.

Dimensions: According to Chattopadhyay and Das (2003): Shell diameter 100—103 µm; diameter/ height ratio 0.38—0.42 µm.

Ecology: Moss scraped on a damp rocky wall.

Geographical distribution: Jiribum, Jiribum district, Manipur State, India.

Remarks: This seems to be a dubious species. The drawing meant to represent the species is actually a drawing of the photo. When you look at the photo, you can see that part of the rim around the aperture appears normal for Arcella species, but most of the rim seems damaged. It is hard to imagine that a pseudostome could be so irregular, especially in an Arcella. An Arcella species from the same region, A. manipurensis, is described in the same publication as having an irregularly oval aperture, but the shell itself also appears irregular based on the photo.
