Euglypha cristata Leidy, 1874

Diagnosis: Shell medium-sized, narrow in plan, almost cylindrical, long (length 3 times greater than width). Anterior end in the form of a slightly marked neck. Cross-section of the shell and aperture is round. Fundus bears in its apical part a bundle (3-8) of curved spines 10-13 µm long. The body scales are elongated-elliptical, located in 5-6 rows of 7-8 plates. The aperture is round, limited by 5-7 rhombic scales, bearing a medial tooth at the anterior end and 3 smaller teeth on each side. Nucleus with  central nucleolus.

Dimensions: Length 33-70 µm, width 12-23 µm, diameter of the aperture 10-12 µm.

Habitat: Sphagnum and mosses.

Infraspecific taxa.
E. cristata acicularis Wailes, 1912
In the posterior part of the shell there is one long and slightly curved spine parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shell and directed backwards. If there are two spines, they are located at an angle to the longitudinal axis and directed towards each other. In general, the shell is slightly larger than the typical form. The length of the shell is 75-95 µm, the width of the shell is 23-24 µm, the diameter of the aperture is 10-14 µm, the length of the spines is 20-40 µm.

E. cristata decora Jung, 1942
Differs from the typical form by the absence of spines on the fundus.

E. cristata lanceolata Playfair, 1918
The shell is lanceolate, the narrowing in the area of the aperture, characteristic of the typical form, is absent. The shell length is 44 µm, the shell width is 17 µm, the aperture diameter is 8 µm.

E. cristata major Wailes, 1912
Differs from the typical form in its larger size, spines and narrowing in the area of the neck of the part are absent. The shell length is 70-90 µm, the shell width is 20-24 µm.
