Euglypha gauthieri Thomas, 1958
Diagnosis: Shell large, with harmonious proportions. Plate scales oval or most often almost circular. In the lower third some scales are prolonged by short and sharp spines encountered so far quite regularly four in number. Shell in cross-section circular, pseudostome also circular. The buccal scales are of a particular type, angular without denticulation or ornamentation; their shape could be represented by an equilateral triangle which would be placed on the diameter of a semicircle. On the border there are thus 4 to 5 buccal scales visible from the front. The peculiarity of the scales of the pseudostome makes it easy to recognize this species.
Dimensions: Thomas (1958): Shell length 150—165 µm; diameter 80—85 µm; diam. pseudostome 30 µm; spine length 25—28 µm.
Habitat: Freshwater. Marshy stream.
Geographical distribution: Africa, Middle Congo (Thomas, 1958).
