E. muscorum, Reestdal, Netherlands, 2024
Euglypha muscorum Wailes and Penard, 1911
Basionym: Euglypha strigosa muscorum Wailes and Penard, 1911
Diagnosis. Shell broader in proportion to its length than E. strigosa, and of a more or less pyriform outline in broad view; body-scales small; either without or with short spines; plasma and pseudopodia as in E. strigosa.
Dimensions: Shell length 45—60 µm; width 38—45 µm; aperture 12—18 µm in diameter; body-scales about 5 µm in length and 3 µm in width.
Ecology and distribution. Usually restricted to mosses, amongst which it is found in association with E. strigosa.
I found this species in dry mosses, e.g., on a tree in Spanderswoud, the Netherlands, but also in mosses on rocks in Spain.
