difflugia-acutissimella-Chardez
D. acutissimella, from Chardez (1985); test X is obviously D. longum, in 1987 described by the same author and also found in the same lake.

Difflugia acutissimella Chardez, 1985

Diagnosis: Shell elongated, bulbous, circular in cross-section, with a truncated pseudostome. The largest diameter of the test is located about one-third of the way from the pseudostome. From there, the flanks gradually converge to form a caudal extension, which has a closed end that is more or less thick and rounded, sometimes slightly curved. The shell is composed entirely of small, flat quartz grains, which are regularly arranged around the pseudostome. These xenosomes are embedded in a hyaline to yellowish organic cement.

Dimensions: Chardez (1985): Shell height 100-126 μm; diameter 46-58 μm; pseudostomal diameter 22-24 μm.

Ecology: Fresh water, sediment from Lake Virelles, Belgium.

Remarks: The fourth test in the images published by Chardez (1985) differs significantly from the others. It resembles a small D. longum, which was also found in the same lake (Chardez, 1987). This species might be identical to D. mammillaris.
