Difflugia spec.
Diagnosis. Shell elongate pyriform, compressed, with rounded aperture and an aboral protuberance, composed of small to large pieces of quartz; apertural collar composed of smaller particles.
Dimensions. My measurements: 380-434 µm; nucleus 50 µm.
Ecology. In sediments of ditches.
Remarks: Shells of this species appear to be rare. I encountered them exclusively in the sediment of a ditch within the Naardermeer nature reserve in the Netherlands. However, specimens were consistently found alongside Difflugia nodosa, suggesting that the two may be identical. Additional observations and records are needed to clarify their relationship. These shells differ from those described by Penard (1902) as D. claviformis, which are not compressed.
