Feuerbornia lobophora – from Jung, 1942

Genus Feuerbornia Jung, 1942

Diagnosis: Shell ampulla-shaped or pyriform with a slightly narrowed neck. Pseudostome section curved in an ampulla-shaped manner or normal: all transitions occur in the same population. The aperture is surrounded by thickened lobes, the color is a medium yellow to brownish yellow. The structure is an extremely fine, difficult to recognize reticulation or areolation. The shell is therefore transparent. A striking fact is the presence of foreign bodies, which look like pieces of pebbles and which sit like a collar at the base of the pseudostome lobes. Sometimes these are the only foreign bodies that the shell has. Behind the apertural lobes, the neck tends to narrow slightly. The plasma is filled with what appear to be symbionts. The relatively large nucleus contains a well-developed nucleolus. The overall appearance shows a close relationship with the genus Cyphoderia (shell shape, areolation) from which Feuerbornia differs mainly in the dissolution of the pseudostomal margin into thick lobes.
