Centropyxis lata
Centropyxis lata, after Jung, 1942

Centropyxis lata  Jung, 1942

Diagnosis: Shell coarse-scaled, covered with a mix of diatoms and detritus; pseudostome large, ventral side mostly steeply sloping over the inner (=rear) Pseudostomal edge and provided there, especially towards the base of the lips, with coarse lumps of xenosomes. Lip margin quite wide, covered with relatively thick plates. Side profile in the front ± angularly bulging and with a saddle dent sharply indented behind it.

Dimensions: Length 139-184 µm; width 109-129 µm; aperture 39-54 µm; height 70-94 um.

Habitat: Freshwater, found in waterfall and swamp mosses and in forest stream mud. By size and shape she might be an inhabitant of the mud bottoms of the waters.

Remarks: The species is related to C. constricta, but is distinguished from it by the characteristic lateral profile, due to the relatively broader lip, has greater width and may perhaps be considered the extreme size of C. constricta: C. lata averages over 150 µm in size, while C. constricta has an average length of under 150 µm.
