
Centropyxis sphagnicola Deflandre, 1929
Basionym: Centropyxis aerophila var. sphagnicola Deflandre, 1929
Diagnosis: Shell very similar overall to that of the type species. Differs in its circular shape in central view, which is more constant here than in neighboring shapes. Very eccentric mouth, with a contour formed by two convex arcs, of varying height. In side view the hull is less domed than in the type; it is also less flattened towards the mouth. Chitinoid integument, scabrous, most often encrusted with foreign particles, small irregular platelets, or quartz grains which are located mainly on the outer edge of the mouth.
Dimensions: Diameter 49-66 μm, height 1/2 à 3/5 of the diameter, aperture 25-37 μm.
Habitat: Freshwater. Almost exclusively on very humid or wet sphagnum moss in peat bogs or sphagnum marshes.
