Plagiopyxis declivis longula
Plagiopyxis declivis var. longula, after Bonnet, 1986

Plagiopyxis declivis var.  longula  Bonnet, 1986

Diagnosis: Shell in dorsal view oblong, with a fairly significant antero-posterior elongation (length/width = 1.3). Symmetrical anterior and posterior regions with, however, frequent accumulation of quartz fragments forming a bead on the aboral border. In ventral view, the sole is large. Pseudostome concealed under a substantially straight dorsal lip, connected to the side by two lateral segments (or commissures) oblique to the long axis and giving the pseudostomal region the characteristic trapezoidal appearance of P. declivis. Extent of the dorsal lip quite variable, generally equal to half the width of the test. In lateral view, relatively high test (height/width = 0.8). Dorsal wall connecting obliquely to the ventral wall forming a bevel most often ending in the stony bead. Ventral side slightly sloping in its anterior half and penetrating little inside the test. Amorphous siliceous elements welded by a colorless cement.

Dimensions: Length 76-100 µm; width 54-83 µm; dorso ventral (height) 49-55 µm.

Ecology: Soil. Southern Europe.
