Plagiopyxis minuta var. oblonga Bonnet, 1959
Diagnosis: The dimensions and constitution of the test recall those of the type. But the wide, regular pseudostomal cleft, the more pronounced cryptostomy, and the oblong shape of the test separate this form from Plagiopyxis minuta. Unlike the case observed in Plagiopyxis declivis var. oblonga, which has a ventral face folded in a “cucilleron”, the ventral membrane here is almost flat.
Dimensions: Diameter 45 µm; width 35 µm, height 23 µm.
Ecology: Soil. In soils of Mediterranean scrubland.
Remarks: Bonnet (1962) distinguishes a forma Plagiopyxis minuta var. oblonga fma grandis. This form is distinguished from the variety by its larger dimensions, more irregular covering and by the very weak cryptostome structure of the pseudostomal region.
